late night drawing
I've been slowly drawing a couple of stream of conscious comics. I only work on them late at night, right before bed. This is a page from one of them. I fold heavy weight paper into a 32 page booklet, and draw in straight pen. When they're done, I'll self publish them exactly as they were drawn. It's a fun exercise and it's really freeing. You really have to trust your drawings and let them have their way.

drawing little people in books
Every book and zine sold through my Etsy Shop gets a little original character drawn inside. It's a fun drawing exercise and I feel like it keeps things personal.

Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey
More very tiny sneak peaks from The Understanding Monster, book 2. I'm about to go into hyper-focus mode on this and try to finally bring this thing to completion. It's taken way longer than anticipated to finish, but it's been an incredibly valuable process for me. More soon!

Tiny pieces of larger things
The top image is a small detail from one of the largest and most detailed woodcuts I've ever made. I'll show the whole thing when it's done. The second image is some pine trees with legs from a large scale comics page I made for anthology that's coming out early next year. I'll show the whole thing once it's seen print!

Ghost Goggles at the Ridiculous Show
The Ridiculous Show opens tonight at the Voncommon in Missoula, Montana (127 East Main, Suite 316, 3rd floor) . It's a show that "celebrates hypothetical patents, ridiculous inventions, outrageous concepts, and whimsical improvements using the creative process to create the impossible..." There's going to be art installations, readings, and performances all evening.
I wanted to do something crazy for this show really bad but I've been in deadline mode and didn't think I could pull it off. Then I realized that the Ghost Goggles I made a couple of years ago would be perfect, so I made this little advertisement to go with them and got them to the gallery just in time. Ridiculous!!

mind formations
Some naturally occurring mind-scape formations from The Understanding Monster, Book Two. I'm still not sure when this will be coming out, but it's getting closer and closer to being done.
overflow
some snapshots of the drawing board I carry around in my backpack, so I always have a surface to draw on. It's been slowly filling up with doodles, spills, and marks from getting my pens working.

New Idea Spirit
I just finished this new little woodcut piece and put it up for sale on my Etsy shop. I originally cut this piece for my Laughing Ghost Nation solo show, but it got misplaced. I found it a couple of days ago and got inspired to finish it.

a space ship for Astral Industries
This is the new logo I made for the UK based record label, Astral Industries. The label's officially about to launch, and I'll be doing all the album art for them. I'm super excited about it. The website's still in the works, but in the meantime, here's a link to their Facebook page.

My show at Giant Robot is only up for 6 more days. There's still a number of my personal favorites available here.
Above are some shots of my studio wall as I was working to finish all the pieces in time. Now it's just a wall full of nails!

Gold World
There's an interview with me in the Italian journal, Gold World. It included this little turtle piece I'd forgotten about. It was cool to see it again.
Alt Lib
A short but sweet little review of the Understanding Monster, book one over at Alt.Lib. My favorite part is when they suggest to "Read it slowly, paying attention to EVERYTHING." I think that's pretty good advice for reading most people's comics. Reading comics, for me is about really slowing down and taking in all the details of the drawings. Computers seem to get us in to skimming, scrolling mode, but sitting down with a hand drawn book is suppose to be a whole different kind of experience.

Astral Industries
The London based Record Label, Space Cadets is ending with it's 8th release, but only because it's being replaced by a bigger, more expansive label called Astral Industries. I'll still be doing all the art and I'm excited about the new music and new possibilities. We're still gearing up to the first release, but in the meantime, here's a flyer I drew for the upcoming launch party. You can get updates over at their Facebook Page.
