fields and eagle's nests

Griffin's been wanting to walk non-stop, so I've been taking him to big open places where he can wander to his heart's content. The other day we walked across a baseball field and watched an eagle building a nest.

Sudden Cosmic Experience

My new Art Zine that I only work on right before bed has been coming along. It's going to be a companion publication to Capacity Number Eight and both of them will debut at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival on May 11th and 12th. I'm excited that I get to go to the Toronto festival. It's suppose to be one of the best around!

Pony Club group show!

I made this little piece for the group show called "Search Results" that's opening this Thursday at the Pony Club gallery in Portland, Oregon. There's an amazing group of artists involved. I can't wait to see it all online.

Magic Fish

I've got a big Magic Fish woodcut for sale over at my Etsy Shop. It's one of the biggest woodcuts I've made so far. It's been living on the wall of my studio, watching me draw, but I think it might want to get out and meet new people.

Another late night doodle

This, and the previous doodle were both drawn directly on the cover to the pad of paper I've been making my comics on. Just a bit of the overflow that happens along the way.

Let's teleport!

Stayed up late doing some tiny doodles instead of going to bed when I should have.

weird times for mummy

The mummy tumbles through the doorway upside down from the ceiling. It's good to be back at work on The Understanding Monster, book 2 after a week away.

Here's the cover I made for the newest record from ASC. It's the seventh release from Space Cadets that I've done the art for.

Spiderman sighting

I wish I could've gotten a better picture of this, but it all happened so fast. Spiderman flew by me on a skateboard yesterday. Right after I snapped this photo he completely wiped out. I yelled "are you okay, Spiderman?!" and he jumped up, gave me two thumbs up and sped away.

Crayons!

More crayon drawing with Griffin. He's really into throwing balls right now.

Crayon sessions

Griffin and I have been getting crazy on some crayon drawings together. We both color on the same page at the same time and get really loud. Sometimes I have to stop him from eating the crayons.

Barong mask

I drew a border around this photo of a Barong Mask from Bali a couple of years ago and mounted it on wood. It hangs in my studio. It's good to have things that feel like encouraging power objects hanging on the walls while I work.

GridLords anthology release!

Hey! Tonight, if you're in Portland, this is definitely what I'd be going to tonight. GridLords has been hosting monthly comics readings and performances for awhile now, as well as posting some really great interviews with cartoonists. Now they're releasing their first publication! I'm Not Afraid To Love is a romance themed comics anthology with an exciting list of contributors. Below is a panel from my three page story I did for it. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy.

Mummy on the floor

More work on The Understanding Monster, book two. It's probably the most fun I've had working on a comic. I feel incredibly lucky that I get to go off to my studio and document these imaginary events.

Happy Valentines Day!

This is from a card I gave to my wife on our 8th anniversary a few days ago.

from a stack of unfinished drawings

As I was leaving the studio today, I stopped to look through a stack of unfinished drawings from under my drawing table and snapped this photo. I have piles of drawings I've never really shown anyone. I'll have to start taking more photos like this.

Year of the Snake

That piece I made for the Year of the Snake show at Giant Robot gallery is up for sale on their web store here. It's a really long drawing on a curved piece of wood. The whole show is worth checking out. There's some excellent work!

Relax, We Have Alien Vehicles

I've been working on a new art zine a few times a week, usually right before bed.  I'm not sure when it'll be done, but there's 11 pages so far.  It's about Mind-Technology from the future, a subject I'm passionate about.

jack Kirby study

This is a little sketchbook study I did of Fantastic Four number 13, page 21, panel 1, drawn by Jack Kirby and inked by Steve Ditko in the early 60s. Words by Stan Lee. I love all of Jack Kirby's work, and this was just a little way to get to know him better.
